Auto Recycling: Make More For Your Scrap

Auto Recycling: The Most Valuable Recyclable Part!

Automobiles are everywhere, and each year many of them must be recycled. In fact, the automotive recycling industry recycles over 4 million motor vehicles in the United States and Canada alone each year! For those who are new to the auto scrap recycling industry, there are a few scrap car components that will make you the most money and should be sought after. The engine and transmission will, of course, yield a high return, but they can be difficult to extract and sell to a recycler. There are other valuable items such as steel from vehicles, copper wire harness, and more. Even parts like spark plugs and oxygens sensors have recyclable value! Recycling the catalytic converter is the simplest way to make the most money from scrap end-of-life vehicles!

Catalytic Converter Recycling

What is it?

Scrap catalytic converters are in high demand among automotive professionals who deal with them daily. Unfortunately, criminals are also aware of the immense value of these small automotive parts, and they typically hunt them in the middle of the night. Regardless, catalytic converters derive their high value from the Platinum Group Metals (PGMs) contained within. These PGMs enable the converter to convert harmful compounds from an engine’s emissions into safe gases such as steam. It works by breaking up the dangerous molecules in a car’s exhaust gases before they are released into the atmosphere. These PGMs inside are Platinum, Palladium, and Rhodium. To put it into perspective, each of these precious metals is worth more than gold. Rhodium reached a new high in 2020, trading comfortably above $13,000 per ounce.

Make Money from Your Scrap Converters!

We encourage you to use a converter pricing guide if you are an automotive repair shop, a catalytic converter buyer/processor, or any other automotive business that is legally registered with the state. Many price guides will give you a price for catalytic converters just by typing in the part number. Using a converter price guide will allow you (the seller) to negotiate a better price from a buyer. You’ll know if a buyer offers you less than the converter’s value and can suggest that they match the listed price. These price guides typically aren’t free, and some companies will only give you access if you sell them your converters. If you want to use a price guide to figure out how much your converter(s) are worth, we have a free converter guide that is very easy to use. With our price guide you are not required to sell to us though because of our competitive pricing and trusted reputation dealing with us may be more reliable than other buyers.

Now you know what it takes to maximize your automotive scrap recycling return!
