Aluminum, steel, cast iron, brass, and precious metals are examples of scrap metals. Some automotive components have a monetary value when recycled. While some recyclable components do not generate much money, they all help the environment. A common recycled vehicle component is the catalytic converter. The availability of precious metals in a catalytic converter determines its economic value. It is abundant in precious metals like rhodium, palladium, and platinum. As a result, they are the most expensive automotive scrap component.

Every year, the vehicle recycling industry in the United States and Canada generates enough steel to make almost 13 million new cars. As we face environmental challenges, this is of critical importance because the production of new metal releases more greenhouse gas emissions than the recycling process. In the same vein, recycling scrap metals requires far less energy and water than mining ore.

Overall automotive recycling is extremely important to the circular economy by combating global warming by lowering greenhouse gas emissions while also helping preserve the planet’s natural resources.
