Power Generation Catalyst – can this be recycled for profit?

Power Generation Catalyst – can this be recycled for profit?

The catalytic converter aids in the reduction of pollutants in the air that can harm both people and the environment. Due to their high precious metal value and prevalence, it is becoming increasingly popular to recycle catalytic converters that are found on automobiles. These precious metals are platinum, palladium, and rhodium, all of which can be sold for a profit. Due to the effectiveness of catalytic converters over the years, they have become adopted by other emission-creating sources and are now widely used on generator sets, forklifts, mining equipment, trucks, buses, trains, and other engines. This is a great innovation that provides an environment for a chemical reaction in which toxic gases are converted, resulting in cleaner air for us all.

Now that we know what catalytic converters are used for and where they are used, the question is whether they can all be recycled for profit. Is there any money to be made from such overlooked catalysts?

Power Generation Needs Catalysts?

Power is all around us, and many of us have no idea how it is created. Power is a necessity for our society in today’s technological age, but it also produces toxic emissions that must be managed. Electric power generation is responsible for 28% of total greenhouse gas emissions in the US. In 2020, the electric power industry in the United States generated 4.01 trillion kilowatt-hours (kWh) from all energy sources, resulting in 1.55 billion metric tons and 1.71 billion short tons of carbon dioxide being released into the atmosphere (CO2). When electricity is generated, it is fed into the power grid, where it is distributed to all the customers who require it. In the case of coal fed power generation; eventually, ash is left behind by the burned coal as a byproduct of the operation. This is frequently sold for items such as asphalt and cinder blocks. Exhaust gases will finally escape from the smokestacks. Sulfur is a common element in coal. Sulfur dioxide is produced when coal is burnt. Acid rain can form when this enters the atmosphere and combines with clouds. To avoid such catastrophe, coal-fired power plants will utilize filters, scrubbers, and, of course, catalytic converters to clean up the exhaust stream as much as possible. In the case of natural gas or methane fed power generation plants, catalysts are needed for the same benefit to air quality.

Make Profit with Power Generation Catalyst

When compared to a regular automobile’s catalytic converter, oxidation catalysts are required for such a duty also have a distinct mix of precious metals. SCR catalysts constructed from various polymer ceramic materials as supports, such as titanium oxide, active catalytic components, are extensively employed in power plants. Having said that, it is feasible to recycle these oxidation catalysts and make a profit. Depleted catalysts must be disposed of on a regular basis, providing an opportunity to generate additional revenue while recycling these materials

With power generation oxidation catalysts, many recycling companies are unable to support this process and create profits for their customers. Whether ceramic substrate based or metal substrate-based catalyst; we can provide this service to those who require it, completing the circular economy of precious metals. Get in touch with us today to learn more about how you can get paid for your power generation oxidation catalysts!
